2000s Rave - Party Like It’s 2003 (February 13 @ The Atlantis)

This Friday the 13th – and into the early hours of Valentine’s Day – EDM DJ Synova will take the stage at The Atlantis for its 2000s Rave - Party Like It’s 2003. Though that year does not exist in the collective memory of current Georgetown students, you can trust that these two INDY correspondents (both 2007 babies) will be dancing the night away and pretending they know what 2003 was like.

A year filled with the debut of Wicked, iTunes, and Queer Eye will be tough to recreate. Even harder to revive will be the energy of a 2000s nightclub, though it should help that low rise, corsets, and capris are back in style; at least the visual identity will match up.

Synova, who will perform similar sets in Houston and Austin the weekend prior, promises EDM remixes of 2000s pop hits. We’re hoping for a mix of high-energy bangers – think 50 Cent, Outkast, Beyoncé, Jonas Brothers – and lesbian ballads, a.k.a. we just want to hear “Since U Been Gone.”

Doors open at nine, the music starts up at the same time, and by one at the latest, you’d better believe that your INDY correspondents will be laying flat on the floor like planking (before it was cool). Hopefully, after their Heated Rivalry rave experience in a few days, they’ll even get to hear “All The Things She Said” two weekends in a row.

Natalia Gonzalez-Chelala is a freshman in the SFS. She urges readers to blast Reptilia by the Strokes while reading this. (Yes, it was released in 2003. Crazy.)

Lorelei Schwarz is a freshman in the College. She just learned about the 2003 kiss between Madonna and Britney Spears at the VMAs and wants to thank them for pioneering queerbaiting.
