Preview: Thundercat at The Anthem on Oct. 28

Thundercat, the stage name of American musician, singer, record producer, songwriter, and bassist Stephen Lee Bruner, will grace the halls of D.C.’s The Anthem Tuesday, Oct. 28. Blending the genres of funk, soul, progressive R&B, psychedelia and jazz-fusion, Thundercat has become a staple among multitalented musicians of today. He’s well known for collaborating with Kendrick Lamar on “These Walls” off the 2016 record To Pimp a Butterfly, and Tame Impala on “No More Lies” (2023), but his solo work is equally as impressive. Drunk (2017) threw Thundercat into the mainstream, before It Is What It Is (2020) catapulted him onto the world stage. “Them Changes” may have become a hit TikTok sound, but Thundercat’s work is so much more than an audio snippet. Drunk, for example, is a thoughtful, political, and reflective record but also a silly and weird and whimsical one. It’s punky but R&B but psychedelic. His North America 2025 Tour is sure to be a good one.

You don’t want to miss him at The Anthem on Tuesday.
