This upcoming Wednesday, The Atlantis will be the first D.C. venue to host rising artist Wallice on her 2026 tour. Previously having opened for The 1975 in 2023 and St. Vincent this upcoming year, this tour kicks off Wallice's first solo tour following her debut album, The Jester, released in 2024. A Los Angeles native, Wallice studied jazz performance in college, and later dropped out to pursue music full time. On how this background influenced her own music, Wallice disclosed in an interview that growing up performing classical and jazz always had an academic-type air to it, leaving her to feel more drawn to alt-pop as a form of musical expression.
The Jester features her longest tracklist with 14 songs, following the release of her previous three EPs. The album begins with “The Opener,” setting the tone for the album where each song tells a particular story Wallice is trying to portray. One of the strongest songs on the album, “Gut Punch Love,” follows the relationship between her mother and a past love, who ended up going missing and eventually found dead. Aligning with her previous discography’s tones, The Jester features a 90s grungy rock mixed with bedroom pop type of sound, combined with Wallice’s airy vocals and poignant drumline. Wallice cites inspiration from Weezer, MGMT, and Japanese Breakfast, elements of each recognizable in her 2022 hit “90s American Superstar.” With her budding success on the line, I am excited to hear this rising indie rock superstar live.
