Preview: Peter McPoland at 9:30 Club on February 24

Peter McPoland will take the stage at 9:30 Club on Tuesday evening next week, touring for his second full-length album, Big Lucky. The album was released on September 26, 2025, and features an entirely self-produced sound and artistic identity, down to the cover art, which was painted by McPoland himself.

Attendees might recognize the singer-songwriter from his viral 2020 single “Romeo & Juliet”; indeed, it seems as though McPoland has been around for years, his earlier music imbued with a sense of COVID-era nostalgia for his listeners. But at only 25 years old, and having signed with Columbia Records as recently as 2021, his career is still in its early stages.

McPoland’s Big Lucky opens with the unpolished, staticky 26-second “Intro,” which gives listeners a peek into the sounds that precede his performances. With his alternative sound and focus on lyricism, his upcoming performance promises to be as introspective and intimate as his studio recordings. The project is inspired by a four-leaf clover McPoland has carried with him since he was a teenager. His sophomore album marks another important step in a project that centers personal experience and conceptual storytelling.

The show will open with DUG, a folk duo with Irish, Scottish and American influences. They’ll be playing songs off of their 2025 album, Have At It!, which was released just a week before McPoland’s.

Lorelei Schwarz is a freshman in the College. She has never found a four-leaf clover.
