“Here comes Johnny Yen again,” and he is coming to The Anthem. Iggy Pop, the prototypical punk rocker, is once again coming to the stage on September 29. Few can say they’ve seen as much, done as much, or snorted as much as Iggy Pop. Rolling around in glass on stage, writhing around in metallic paint, his career is emblematic of the audaciousness of the original punk scene. Dirty, bloody, DIY, Iggy Pop is part of the vanguard of original punk rockers, back when the scene we’ve come to know and mythologize was just bubbling up and over in the streets of New York. His career, beginning with The Stooges in the Midwest, took him coast to coast, continent to continent. When The Stooges broke up, he eventually found his way to David Bowie and an explosive solo career, with the seminal albums The Idiot and Lust for Life. Nevertheless, punk is always evolving just as it honors its originators. On tour with Pop is up and coming UK band The Molotovs, a brother and sister duo striking out on a new form of pop-punk with a particular British feel. Only in their teens, their remarkably skilled (but not too polished) sound carries on the legacy of Iggy Pop and his compatriots. Daring, dangerous, and very soon to be live, punk lives on at The Anthem.
