Geese, an Eccentric Rock Band for a New Generation

With the release of their brand new landmark album Getting Killed, Brooklyn’s very own Geese has brought the Big Apple back to the forefront of modern rock.

Formed in 2016 while its members attended high school together, Geese never intended to achieve the level of stardom they’ve now reached. This project between friends became something much greater when major record labels began to catch wind of their demos. While 2021’s Projector and 2023’s 3D Country received high praise from critics and fans alike, it was their newest release, Getting Killed, that catapulted the band into rock-and-roll fame with front-page reviews and sold-out shows.

Geese is a quintessentially New York rock band. Lead singer Cameron Winter’s trademark warbles channel the soulful voices of Bob Dylan and Lou Reed, while the twinkling and repetitive guitar riffs of Emily Green, masterful percussion landscapes of Max Bassin, and rock-solid bass lines of Dominic DiGesu exude the energy and influence of The Strokes and Television. Although its members are not even 25 years old, this band feels timeless.

Getting Killed is a chaotic masterpiece. Produced by Kenneth Blume (formerly known as Kenny Beats), the album feels raw and emotional. Where 3D Country was a breakout exhibition of unbridled talent, Getting Killed is a cozy, personal concert. Winter connects with listeners through lyrics about disillusionment, self-destruction, and determination, sung in his ragged, crooning voice. The diversity of sound on this album cannot be overstated either. Lead single “Taxes” gleams with bright indie rock energy, while “Trinidad” emerges as a blues explosion in 13/8, and “Au Pays du Cocaine” chronicles a sorrowful ballad of love lost. Geese will make you smile, laugh, cry, and maybe even gain a new perspective on the world with their extraordinary new project.

Elliot Anderson is a sophomore in the College majoring in Biology and minoring in Voodoo Balarama Baba Yaga.
