Indy Suggests: Dermot Kennedy, "Power Over Me"
On Oct. 16, Irish crooner Dermot Kennedy released his newest song, “Power Over Me.” This song diverges from his usual vocally-driven, acoustic guitar melody with heavy bass beats. In fact, the song is almost reminiscent of a song from British band Bastille in its haunting poppiness, balancing voice with beat. Still, constant listeners, fear not; Kennedy’s vocals shine through in the bridge, when the background music quiets for his raspy, soulful belting. Kennedy’s new anthem sticks with his repertoire’s theme: his unique prose is layered over an acoustic backing coupled with his producer Mike Dean’s slightly threatening yet oh-so-compelling pulse. Definitely do not miss out on “Power Over Me” or any of Dermot Kennedy’s music. At his sold out Black Cat D.C. show on Friday, Oct. 26, fans already knew every lyric to his newly-released song. With an extremely justified, ever-growing fan base, the brilliantly talented Dubliner will be everywhere by 2019. Check out Dermot Kennedy’s “Power Over Me” on Spotify or any other streaming platform (or hear him live; Kennedy is on his North American tour until Nov. 19)!
