Last week, The Atlantis welcomed a pink haired angel to grace its halls with insane guitar solos, a fiery drum line, and some sweet sweet melodies. From the intimate venue to the energetic crowd, watching Wallice perform truly felt like a personal performance by the 28-year-old L.A. singer.
To start the evening off, Fake Dad took the stage by storm with passion and a fast beat, getting the crowd moving. After being primed by the duo, Wallice and her band opened with “Gut Punch Love” off her latest album. Callaghan Kevany’s guitar work featured an impressive musical line that gave the live performance a distinct sound from the studio version. Her entire discography was evidently more alive when hearing it in person, letting the musicality of her band members shine through. Wallice carried herself with a quiet energy that reminded me of early concert footage from rising musical sensations. However, as the night went on, she opened up to the audience, moving to the music and radiating true joy with a toothy smile. This tone was reflected in the crowd as well, where everyone grew increasingly groovier later into the show. One of those turning points came after she performed her debut single, ‘Punching Bag,’ getting the crowd to sing and dance along. Witnessing that raw talent truly felt like discovering someone on the brink of great fame, and I honestly cannot wait to see when that finally happens. She closed with “Heaven Has To Happen,” wishing a final goodbye posed as a question: “Can you save the rain for later?”
