Captives of the Sky

Look beyond
The windowsill
For a special presentation,
Delivered by
Your hulking
Yellow teachers
Just outside
The schoolhouse walls
They wave their
Arms in jubilation,
Ushering you
To come
And take your seat
Pencils, worksheets
Mama’s snack,
And your arts and crafts creation
Fill your bag
As you erase
The room
Through the window,
Rogue balloons make
Their evacuation
Escaping to a sky
You’ll never feel
But always see
The lackey of
The Yellows
Sits you at
The river’s basin
“A birthday throne
for what you’ll
soon witness!”
The Yellows start
Their lesson,
A lively demonstration
Of onomatopoeia
In the world
Boom! Clash! Crush!
Their arms slam down
In self-ovation
Your school
Reduced to a
Fine debris,
The assistant brags,
“What better gift than
an early graduation,”
This lesson
A ceremony,
Indoctrination for a degree
Yellow teachers march
Past you
Using the river’s navigation
To approach the
Buildings clawing
The horizon
You worry,
Will they really stop
My second celebration?
When the Yellows
Bring their lesson
To your home
